 This
journal entry was written November 26. This week there was
only one day of school (Monday) due to Parent/Teacher conferences and
the Thanksgiving holiday. The students began their Thanksgiving break in the area of
White Sulphur Springs, Montana. They were given "P.E. homework" to
run/walk over the long Thanksgiving weekend and to report their distance to
Mrs. Staso on Monday, November 28. Overall, the students did quite
well. It looks like the turkey and stuffing didn't slow them down very
much!
This
week both classes passed through Checkerboard, Montana, and the 4th
grade class visited the towns of
Twodot,
Harlowton, Winnecook,
Barber,
and
Ryegate - as well as
Deadman's Basin Reservoir. The 4th
graders are very near to
Lavina, Montana. Please scroll down to read a
note of encouragement we received from Lavina's Mayor, Mr. Sid Boe.

We do want to extend a note of
appreciation to Martha Robertson who organized the creation of hallway
posters for the Parent/Teacher conferences, which instructed parents
to visit the computer lab in order to view the SeeUsRun.com web site.
We are hoping that more parents of the 4th and 5th grade students will
get involved in helping to plan celebrations for each of the 15 states
that the students successfully cross - and to brainstorm ways to
encourage the kids throughout the year. This truly is a "team" effort
and we hope that more people will take an active role in making the
Run/Walk Across America a wonderful success!

Some Encouraging
Notes We Received This Week: |

Dear 4th and 5th
graders at Russell Elementary: Greetings from the town of Lavina. We
are pleased you are "virtually" traveling through our little town.
What a great idea! We hope you all enjoy your trip. We will enjoy
watching your progress on the web site. May your trip be fun,
rewarding, and successful.
Sid Boe, Mayor
Lavina, Montana

Wow!
What a great inspiring story! I do hope the 4th and 5th graders make
it the entire 15 states. What a great thing if all schools across
America implemented this same program. I would love to start an
after school running program for our local elementary students. Any
suggestions would be great.

Can't
wait for you to get to Delaware. We are a small state - so you can
drive from the top to the bottom in about an hour! We are planning a
walk also. Maybe we'll meet along the way!

Pierre S.
duPont Elementary School

Note: Ms. Guilday wrote another note to us and stated that her school is
planning a similar program to ours starting in January
2006. She said, "Wouldn't it
be fun to meet (virtually) somewhere in the middle." We think that
would be great!
