This journal entry was written April 8. For the first time since February 18, the 4th grade class is ahead of pace! Congratulations 4th graders! The students have truly put in a strong effort over the past few weeks to get back on pace, and we believe that they will continue their momentum and complete the trek by June 9th. Helping to get the 4th graders back on pace while virtually in the state of Indiana were some members of the Missoula Raptors football team. If you haven't yet seen some of the pictures from their visit, you'll want to visit the photo gallery. We appreciate Marcus, Forrest, Brian and Paul doing some running and walking with the kids! The other big news is that the 4th graders are only 10 miles away from entering the state of Ohio - their 11th state on this 15-state trek!

The 5th grade class did not run/walk much this week, mainly due to a rock climbing unit that they had. Due to their fantastic efforts during the months of December through March, they are well ahead of the pace needed to complete the journey by the last day of school and are currently in the state of West Virginia. They have 180 miles remaining in that state before entering Virginia. If you take a look at an atlas, or MapQuest online, you'll see that when they are approximately two-thirds of the way across West Virginia they will have to cross the western point of Maryland. Their jaunt into Maryland will be short (only 9 miles) and then they'll re-enter West Virginia. They will then enter Maryland once again after completing the state of Virginia. So, they will enter Maryland on two separate occasions!

The forty-one 5th grade students only have 429 miles remaining until they reach the finish line at Cape Henlopen, just two miles east of Lewes, Delaware. The fifty-six 4th grade students have 693 miles left to go on the 3,200-mile trek across America. Both classes are truly persevering and are on pace to succeed!!

As always, we ask that you send the kids an encouragement note prior to leaving the SeeUsRun.com web site! Even though they're ahead of pace, they still need to be encouraged each day! Thanks for stopping in!
