This journal entry was written April 1. The students were on Spring break from school this week and next week we'll learn if they did any running or walking on their own to add to the trek across America. They will need to hand in parent-singed mileage sheets for any distance accomplished.

We were so excited to hear from Mrs. Slater this week (an elementary teacher in Erie, Pennsylvania). Her school is going to begin their own Run/Walk Across America curriculum. We are always encouraged to hear of other schools that are starting to do a curriculum similar to ours.

We want to say "Thank You!" to the John Deere company in Moline, Illinois, for providing fabric stickers to the kids for successfully completing the state of Illinois. We truly appreciate these types of donations to reward the kids!

The students have been away from school for 9 days. Please take a moment to send them a word of encouragement as they return to school to begin the final two-month stretch of this very long trek. Thanks!

Some Encouraging Notes We Received This Week:

Dear Russell Elementary School 4th and 5th Graders: Thank you so much for participating in this educational, healthy, and fun activity your teacher and her husband have planned for you. You will learn, keep your body strong, and be happy in life as you continue to take on long term goals and challenges. It is important as citizens of a school, town, state and nation to work together to achieve a goal. Great work!

You can do it! Just remember you can run slow or run fast, but just running at all makes you a runner.
